Day 1: Graz

Our journey to Graz centered around meeting my adorable niece, who had recently turned two-months old. However, our trip got off to a rocky start when I realized I had misplaced my driver's license a few days before. Upon landing in Vienna, our first stop was the car rental center, where I inquired about the possibility of using a picture of my license, in hopes a picture on my phone would be enough. Unfortunately, the initial rental had to be scrapped, and no other cars were available for us. A new booking had to be arranged with another agency, costing us five times more than our original price.

As we hit the highway, it didn't take long for us to notice that the initially provided car had faulty brakes and subpar wipers, definately not safe for the autobahn. We turned back quickly and the rental company replaced it with a much more appealing upgrade—an Alfa Romeo Stelvio.

By nightfall, we had arrived in Graz, where we enjoyed some quality time with my family. Our evening unfolded with good food, delightful German beers, and a lot of catching up.

Day 2: Graz

Taking it easy in the morning, we made our way to the heart of Graz to take a look at the city and it's charm. Our first stop was the patio at Kastner & Öhler, offering a panoramic view of the city center. After sipping on a hot cup of coffee, we enjoyed the scenic vista before strolling around to catch sight of the Grazer Schlossberg. We decided no to scend to the top with my niece as the winter chill was making the journey a bit challenging.

Next on our itinerary was Murinsel, a manmade island on the Mur River. Home to a café and a theater, it provided a unique perspective of Graz. We wandered a bit more, admiring the modern architecture, before heading to Bäckerei Sorger, a local bakery, for some comforting hot chocolate and a taste of regional baked delights.

We visted the Double Spiral Stairs soon after, built in 1438 by the Roman Emperor Frederick III, the stairs are a marvel symbolizing eternity. The intricate design of the stairs, splitting, joining on a new floor, and splitting again, left us in awe.

Day 3: Vienna

After fueling up with a hearty breakfast at my cousin's place, we set out for Vienna. Our first stop was the impressive Schönbrunn Palace, a sight to behold with its grandeur and remarkable architecture leaving us thoroughly speechless.

Following the palace visit, we made our way to St. Stephen's Cathedral in the heart of Vienna. The cathedral's size on the inside left my parents astonished, its magnificence standing as a focal point in the city. We strolled through the quaint streets, admiring the countless buildings with their captivating architecture, soaking in the essence of Vienna before heading to the airport to bid the city farewell.

We really wished we had planned another day in Vienna to visit the Vienna State Opera and indulge in a few more Austrian delicacies.
